Connecticut State Historian
Walter Woodward was appointed Connecticut’s third State Historian in 2004. Prior to his career as historian and professor, Woodward was an award winning advertising executive, wrote highly successful jingles, won two Emmy Awards, and had two country hits in the top ten, most famously Marty Gray. In his new book, Prospero’s America: John Winthrop, Jr., Alchemy, and the Creation of New England Culture,1606-1676 he examines John Winthrop, Jr. who served as governor of Connecticut and founded New London.
